Stewart Milne Construction has secured two contracts totalling £7 million from Moray Council and the University of Abertay, Dundee. The company will build a new campus HQ for Moray Council to replace a network of satellite offices in the Elgin area. An existing supermarket site adjacent to the Council’s current premises in central Elgin will be redeveloped in an open plan format to meet top environmental standards to create a fit for purpose building offering improved direct service contact with the public. Environmental features will include: increased natural light; a smart ventilation system for seasonal comfort; high levels of thermal insulation applied to the building fabric; and increased air tightness to minimise heat loss. The second contract, for a programme of summer works worth £3 million, follows Stewart Milne Construction’s successful delivery of a project to redevelop areas of the Kydd Building at the University of Abertay last year. Working with Archial architects, the company will redevelop and refurbish two levels of the building to provide new cellular and open plan office accommodation as well as additional lecture space. A new gable structure incorporating a lift will also be added. Commenting on the contract awards, Bill Imlach, managing director of Stewart Milne Construction, said: “In the current highly competitive climate, our team is delighted to have secured two such prestigious projects which give us a solid pipeline of development work into next year to complement our existing order book.” Preparatory work is underway on both contracts with the Moray Council campus due to complete in July 2010. The University of Abertay will complete in two phases – August and December 2010. June 2010 |
